The PCAHA Female District Development Program development teams had a very successful weekend at the Scarborough Sharks New Year’s Classic Girls Hockey Tournament in Toronto, Ontario.
PCAHA U13 Team Coast won the U13 “A” championship, defeating Stoney Creek Sabres 1-0 in the championship final.
U13 Team Coast went unbeaten in its round-robin group at 3-0-0 and advanced through the quarter-finals (3-1 vs. Durham West Lightning) and semi-finals (2-1 vs. PCAHA U13 Team Valley) to reach the final.
U13 Team Coast went on to win gold!!
PCAHA U13 Team Valley also finished first in its round-robin group at 2-0-1 and won its quarter-final playoff 2-1 vs. the host team, Scarborough Sharks, before losing to PCAHA U13 Team Coast in the semi-finals.
PCAHA U15 Team Valley played against the Etobicoke Dolphins losing a close 2-0 game to claim Silver in the U15 after finishing second in its round-robin group at 2-1-0 and winning its quarter-final (5-0 vs. Toronto Leaside Wildcats) and semi-final (2-1 vs. PCAHA U15 Team Coast) playoff games.
PCAHA U15 Team Coast finished first in its round-robin group at 2-0-1 and won its quarter-final playoff 2-1 vs. Brampton Canadettes before falling to PCAHA U15 Valley in the semi-finals.
In both U13 and U15, PCAHA teams had the misfortune of being drawn to play each other in the semi-finals.
The PCAHA Female District Development Program was established in 2018 to provide high performance development opportunities to U13 and U15 players registered with PCAHA member Minor Hockey Associations. Each year development teams formed from the program have participated in high level tournaments in Ontario against teams from the Ontario Women’s Hockey League.
